The Metropolitan Golf Club (the Club) is one of Australia’s premier private golf clubs, renowned for its rich history, world-class championship course, and exceptional member experience. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s famed Sandbelt, the club has hosted numerous national and international tournaments and continues to uphold the highest standards in golf, hospitality, and service.

Today, the Club stands at a pivotal juncture. It is nearing the end of Stage 2 of its comprehensive course redesign—managed by Crafter & Mogford Golf Strategies—with redevelopment on track for completion in 2025 with the full course open for member play at the end of this month. Concurrently, discussions are underway with Huntingdale Golf Club about a potential amalgamation, an initiative designed to create a unique 36‐hole golfing experience and enhance membership value.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the Club into its next phase of success. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of club operations, including member services, financial management, course maintenance, hospitality, and strategic planning. This is a rare opportunity for a passionate leader to manage one of Australia’s most prestigious golfing institutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and operational management across all areas of the club.
• Ensure an exceptional member experience by delivering world-class service and amenities.
• Develop and execute long-term strategic plans in alignment with the club’s vision and values.
• Oversee financial performance, budgeting, and cost management to ensure sustainability.
• Lead and develop a high-performing team management team across all departments from course maintenance, golf operations, hospitality, and administration.
• Maintain and enhance the club’s reputation within the local and international golf community.
• Work closely with the Board of Directors to implement governance and policy decisions.
• Foster strong relationships with members, staff, sponsors, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry standards.
• Project management, oversee the completion of major projects and initiatives, including the completion of the course re-design construction and grow-in and potential amalgamation with Huntingdale Golf Club.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring a combination of strategic vision, leadership experience, and a strong understanding of the golf and hospitality industries.

• Proven experience and track record of performance and achievement as a General Manager or senior leadership role in a golf club, hospitality, or similar member-based organisation.
• A strong understanding of golf operations and private club culture.

• A member-first mindset with a commitment to excellence in service delivery.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with members and stakeholders.
